Philadelphia Futures Named a Four-Star Charity
Philadelphia Futures announces it has earned Charity Navigator’s coveted four-star rating for the fourth consecutive year.
Philadelphia Futures’ strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency have earned the organization its fourth consecutive four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator.
Only 13% of the charities that Charity Navigator has rated have received at least four consecutive four-star evaluations. Philadelphia Futures also is one of only five education entities in Pennsylvania to receive a four-star rating, and one of four education entities in Philadelphia to receive the rating.
Philadelphia Futures has achieved a four-star rating for its sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency. Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates Philadelphia Futures adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way. The rating differentiates the organization from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust and support.
Philadelphia Futures’ complete rating can be read on the Charity Navigator website here.
“It is critically important that our supporters trust that we are using their contributions wisely to accomplish our mission of providing Philadelphia’s low-income, first-generation-to-college students with the tools, resources and opportunities necessary for admission to and success in college,” said Sara Woods, Executive Director, Philadelphia Futures. “Our four-star Charity Navigator rating demonstrates to our community our good governance and financial accountability.”
Since 2002, using objective and data-driven analysis, Charity Navigator has awarded only the most fiscally responsible organizations a 4-star rating. In 2011, Charity Navigator added 17 metrics, focused on governance and ethical practices as well as measures of openness, to its ratings methodology. These “Accountability & Transparency” metrics, which account for 50 percent of a charity’s overall rating, reveal which charities operate in accordance with industry best practices and whether they are open with their donors and stakeholders. On June 1, 2016, we upgraded our methodology for rating each charity’s’ financial health with CN 2.1. These enhancements further substantiates the financial health of our four star charities.
“Philadelphia Futures’ exceptional 4-star rating sets it apart from its peers and demonstrates its trustworthiness to the public,” according to Michael Thatcher, President & CEO of Charity Navigator. “Only a quarter of charities rated by Charity Navigator receive the distinction of our 4-star rating. This adds Philadelphia Futures to a preeminent group of charities working to overcome our world’s most pressing challenges. Based on its 4-star rating, people can trust that their donations are going to a financially responsible and ethical charity when they decide to support Philadelphia Futures.”
