For Parents and Guardians

Philadelphia Futures’ Sponsor-A-Scholar (SAS) Program is proud to work closely with parents and guardians as you help your child reach his or her full potential. Your active participation in the academic life of your SAS student is extremely important to your child’s success.
Keeping In Touch
Philadelphia Futures regularly informs parents and guardians about student progress in the SAS Program. In addition, we encourage parents and guardians to contact your SAS Coordinator whenever questions or concerns arise.
Activities
Parents and guardians who are actively involved in SAS programming often feel better equipped to support their children in the transition from high school to college. We encourage you to participate in SAS activities throughout the year, and to remain in ongoing contact with your Coordinator.
To learn more about our calendar of events, please refer to our Parent and Guardian Activities, and check the SAS Spotlight newsletter, mailed monthly to your home.
Responsibilities
Parents and guardians of SAS students agree to continue supporting the strong academic performance of their children, participate in SAS activities, and do all that is necessary for students to successfully complete high school, gain admittance to college, and earn a college degree. SAS parents and guardians are asked to commit to the following:
Communication
- Plan with your student to ensure that family responsibilities do not conflict with school and SAS activities.
- Stay in regular contact with your student's SAS Coordinator. Inform the SAS Coordinator of any changes in address, telephone number, and employment.
- Communicate with your student’s mentor regularly. Parents/guardians work together with the mentor for the student’s benefit. Regular communication also helps to avoid scheduling conflicts.
- Read the SAS Spotlight newsletter and check our website to keep updated on program events and important dates. Pay special attention to your student’s class activities.
Participation
- Make sure that your student attends all scheduled SAS activities.
- Attend the SAS Annual Conference with your student and his or her mentor.
- Ensure that your student attends school daily and on time.
- Attend report card conferences at your student’s high school.
- Attend individual conferences with your student, SAS Coordinator, and mentor as needed. These appointments will be scheduled at mutually convenient times.
