Philadelphia Futures and White-Williams Scholars Celebrate Their Merger and Their Partners

Dec._2011_Website_PhotoIn November, to celebrate its newly merged organization and the partners who made it possible, Philadelphia Futures hosted celebratory events for our many friends and supporters. The two celebrations, held days apart, took place at The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University and the Pyramid Club. At The Academy, friends and supporters worked their way around Dinosaur Hall, learning the history of both organizations while meeting students and staff members at a dozen information tables, which highlighted the many aspects of our combined programs and services.

The evening's formal program, with keynote remarks given by The Academy of Natural Sciences' President and Chief Executive Officer, George W. Gephart Jr., who also is a former board member of White-Williams Scholars, concluded with an introduction of our students past and present and the life-changing opportunities made available to them.

Phillies, Futures "Get in the Game" for Youth

Sunday, April 17, 2011, was a perfect day for both the Phillies and Philadelphia Futures, two organizations with strong community ties and a deep appreciation for one another. It began with the Phillies' exciting victory over the Florida Marlins – a game secured by Carlos Ruiz's sacrifice fly to centerfield – with the win going to Ryan Madson, who entered the game in the eighth inning. Both players were slated to co-host Philadelphia Futures' annual "Get in the Game" Bowling and Billiards Fundraising Tournament later that evening.

At twilight, Madson and Ruiz were welcomed at North Bowl by 400 of Futures' cheering supporters, who greeted them and their teammates – Danys Baez, Ben Francisco, Jose Contreras, David Herndon, Ryan Howard, John Mayberry, Jr., Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley and Shane Victorino – with applause and fanfare.
